How To Stop Dog Barking?

Stop dog barking is a Herculean task for the dog owners. Most of the owners are very much worried about the dog barking sound. The perturbed owner may ask their vet either to perform a debarking operation or even euthanasia. Aside from the biting dog, the barking dog is probably the pet peeve of many non-dog owners.

Reasons For Dog Barking

Do you know barking is a natural response for many dogs? (Even wolf in a forest can bark like our dogs). Actually barking is an inherited predisposition of a dog-to bark as an alarm when people or other dogs approach their territory.

Alarm bark is not necessarily undesirable behavior because it makes many dogs valuable as household watchdogs. Dog's bark varies as per their different vocal tone and pattern. Sometimes dogs bark back at other dogs or join in with other barking dogs. Usually small puppies learn to bark if the barking is followed, at least sometimes, by a reward.

Even some of the dogs may bark when they prefer to get in the house or to get out of a kennel. There is some training available to train a dog to bark upon hearing the command "speak" for a food reward.

For some owners, barking dog noise may cause hatred behavior towards the dog. Owners who seek advice in dealing with a barking problem may already have employed some type of punishment, which is ineffective. They may have tried different approaches such as throwing something at the dog or shouting at it.

By hitting at a dog or shouting, a person interferes with what effect the punishment may have on the behavior itself through the escape attempts or submissive responses and arousal of autonomic reactions by the dog. Dog won't stop barking by adopting these simple techniques.

Stop Dog Barking Techniques

Although there are numerous techniques available to control dog barking, few of them are having good patronage among the pet owners.

Water Bucket Approach

This technique helps the dog owner administer the punishment without being directly involved. A platform to hold a bucket of water may be constructed over the kennel area where the dog usually chose in the night to bark. Through a system of pulleys, ropes, and hinges, a mechanism was devised so that the holder of the dog could pull a rope from his bedroom window, throwing away a bucket of water on the dog when he started to bark.

The bucket would be suspended such that once it was dumped, up righted itself and the owner could fill it again remotely by turning on a garden hose. After two appropriate drowning, the dog's barking behavior was apparently eliminated.

Anti-bark Collars

Anti-bark collars spray light mist scent in front of his nose. Dogs usually won't prefer this act. Hissing noise along with the bad smell made the dog to keep quiet. Although shock collars are available in the market, research studies confirm that spraying collars is the most effective to stop dog barking.

Behavior Modification

By changing the circumstances that lead to barking, most of the owners succeed in the operation of stop dog barking. For example, a dog that continually barks in the backyard while owners are gone may not bark if left in the house while they are away. If you allowed the untrained dog in the house if you're away may lead to other housebreaking problems. But these problems can be corrected easily with house training than it is to stop dog barking behavior of the dog.
