Breed Group

Pug belongs to the Mastiff breed group and the lower tooth often protrudes than the upper teeth in this breed. The Pug has attracted many persons due to their appearance and the tiny body.

Weight

The body weight of the Pug is varying from six to eight Kg.

Height

The female dogs have the height of twenty five to thirty nine cm, whereas the male dogs have the height of thirty to thirty six cm..

Color(s)

The coat has the color(s) comprising apricot, black, silver and fawn. However, all the dogs of this breed have flat, black muzzle with velvety ears.

The silver variety of Pug is much less common in United States of America and often the silver coated Pugs are light colored ones. Many wrinkles are present over the face.

Coat

The coat needs constant grooming and the coat appears lusterless if not cared properly in this breed.

Overview

These dogs are bred early to adorn the laps of the emperors in Eastern China and later the monks of the Tibet. The bulging eyes of this breed are the characteristic feature in this breed. The history revealed its recent entry to Japan and Europe. Breeds like Pekingese and Japanese Chin evolved from this attractive breed only.

Character

These dogs, which are capable of living upto 12 to 15 years, are often adaptable to apartments. However, this breed is more sensitive to the extremes of the cold and hot climatic conditions.

Temperament

The tone of your voice is well understood and hence, one can never be so harsh when they own these breeds. However, this breed may become jealous whenever the owners do not pay proper attention.

They are playful and become happy when you engage them in activities

Care

The skin needs to be taken care of. The ticks or lice if any need to be removed and suitable medication has to be applied subsequent to the consultation with a veterinarian and don’t over feed them during the routine feeding schedules and if not, this dog may become obese, some times.

Training

Training needs to be given in a gradual manner from the young age itself. A trained pug is an attractive dog. However, try to avoid offering of vigorous training to this tniy and gentle breed.

Activity

They are comparatively docile dogs and are loved by children in particular due to their reserved characters and interesting activities.

Pug enjoys the mild to moderate exercise. However, when you see the Pug wheezing much, then take care to avoid or to reduce the given exercise.
