Coat
The animal has soft, flat and medium length
coat.
Overview
Both the English and Irish setters are ancestors
of Spanish Pointers. In United States of America, the IR is
called as the Irish Red Setter.
Only in 1900s, due to selective breeding
and intense breeding programs, pure Irish setters emerged
to have many prizes and appreciation.
Character
Since the IS is a very active dog, the dog
is not much suitable for the place like an apartment. The
reason for this is that this breed needs free place to get
a good amount of exercise.
Hence, city is less suitable than a village
for this. If not, the dog need to be given good amount of
exercise in the form of fast walk or jogging.
Temperament
No guarding instincts are present with this
animal but are better suited to move with children and other
animals.
Lovable temperament is present and is responsive
one. These dogs are not naturally aggressive in temperament.
They are more friendly animals and get along
well in new places.
Care
The animal needs good brushing and bathing
should be carried out periodically in order to keep it dirt
free.
Grooming is to be done in a gentle manner
because rough handling during the grooming activities may
lead to defects in the hair follicle and hair loss may occur
in an excessive manner.
Regular deworming and vaccination are the
must to keep this IS in a healthy status.
Training
Planned type of training is a best one for
the dogs like IR.
Activity
Due to the high level of activities, the
Irish setter needs to be taken for a long walk, on a daily
basis. If not, Irish setter is unable to get controlled and
is restless also.
