Coat
Dense undercoat is present
whereas the top coat is water repellent. The dog has medium-length
with cream to golden colored coat.
Overview
The breed was developed first at Scotland
and has evolved from Newfoundland, Setters
and Spaniels. This dog has an excellent nose
and is used for tracking and hunting purposes by many persons.
Character
They are lovable animals and are liked by
children mainly because of the long hair materials swaying
from side to side during movements. Because of their sociability,
the GR is preferred and is able to move well
with children, elderly persons and with other dogs too.
Temperament
These dogs love to be people and are confident.
The obedience is something superb and the
temperament is much pleasing one and the pet owners often
feel proud of the nice temperament of their dogs.
Care
These dogs are to be cared especially for
the coat. The skin needs to be checked frequently for the
presence of any ticks or lice infestation. This dog needs
regular anti-parasitic treatment and the
fecal sample needs to be examined frequently.
In areas wherein increased humidity is present,
the flea problem needs to be checked frequently.
Cancer is the frequent cause
of death in these animals and particularly, the lymphosarcoma,
osteosarcoma, mast cell tumor and hemangiosarcoma are more
common in these dogs, in addition to the hip dysplasia.
Training
They excel other dogs in obedience
related training activities. When offered planned
and systematic training schedules, these dogs perform well
as pet dogs. The dog loves a long walk along with the owner.
Activity
The activities of the dog may not be satisfactory
if the animal is without any contact with
the owner for a longer time. Hence, the owner needs to spend
some time with the dog daily regardless of
his or her daily busy schedules.
The dog loves picking up of toys or balls
as a playful activity and are intelligent in general. The
GR is used as a service dog and as a blind
dog.
The Golden Retriever is
capable of swimming well and loves swimming. Golden
Retriever exhibit intelligent activities whenever
taken for dog show.
