Chow Chow

Breed Group

This dog is belonging to the dog breed group of non sporting type. It is having an attractive appearance. There is a rough haired Chow Chow and Smooth haired Chow Chow.

Weight

The body weight of these dogs ranges from twenty to thirty two kg. The chest is broad and deep but the tail is held back up and has a tuft of hair materials.

Height

The height ranges from forty six to fifty six cms.

Color(s)

Generally, solid red, blue, cinnamon, cream and black are the color(s) in this breed of dog. Blue-black colored tongue of this dog is a characteristic feature.

Coat

The coat is a double layered one and has dense hair materials.

Overview

This dog has China as place of origin. One emperor in China in earlier periods had about 2500 pairs of Chow Chows. Even Prince Wales got a Chow Chow from this royal person.

Some historians view that this dog actually accompanied the army personnel of Mongolia when the Mongolians invaded south into China and west into Europe and southwest into Middle East, during the twelfth century.

Character

These dogs are generally lethargic. Hence, they need to be provided adequate exercise whether kept inside the house or outside.

Care

The CC needs regular grooming and the double layered coat needs an intensive grooming.

This activity needs to be carried out with a good tipped comb and protrusions if any in the comb, the comb needs to be discarded.

It is good to understand that this dog is a frequent shedder and hence, the dead or fallen hair materials from the body need to be removed frequently.

Take care of the external parasitism involving ticks or lice or flea.Suitable medications need to be applied or injected against the parasitic conditions prevalent in this breed.

The fecal sample needs to be examined in a periodical manner and the dog is prone for eye defect called as enteropion but can be corrected by surgical interventions. Hip dysplasia also occurs frequently in this breed.

Hence, the pet owners need to take care of all these abnormalities in a systematic manner.

Training

Timely training from earlier age makes it as a wonderful dog.

Activity

This dog is a well-mannered one with good activities and is a serious type of dog and is affectionate.

Chow chow has brisk activities if given regular grooming, exercises and trainings. Activities of Chow Chow are used for hunting and guarding.
