Breed Group

Boxers belong to the Mastiff /Working breed group and Boxers are loved by many persons.

Weight

The female dogs weigh about twenty-four to twenty nine kg, whereas the male dogs weigh about twenty-seven to thirty two kg.

Height

Female dogs have the height of fifty three to sixty one cms. Male dogs have the height of about fifty-six to sixty three cms.

Color(s)

The color(s) of the dog often comprises fawn or brindle. Brindle color means the occurrence of black colored stripes in fawn background. The boxer dog does not carry the gene for solid black color. Various shades of red are also noticed with many boxers.

Coat

The coat is shiny in appearance. Smooth and short haird coat is noticed with this dog. The coat is easy to clean due to the smooth feature.

Overview

It is generally accepted that Brabanter bullenbeisser was a direct ancestor as for as concerned with Boxers. These dogs have Germany as originating place, from early 1800s.

Character

The dog is much liked by persons because of the somewhat a different facial appearance. When aroused by some activities or events, the dog stands brave and courageous to resist. These dogs are excellent watchdogs.

The dog is distrustful to the strangers but otherwise the dog is so friendly and affectionate to the pet owner. Cleaning habits of this dog are appreciable.

Temperament

The boxers are nice to behave and are affectionate with children, elderly persons and other pet animals of the house. These dogs are playful, energetic and high spirited. Using front paws is commonly noticed when the food bowls or watering bowls are empty.

Care

The dog is to be checked periodically for the presence of any external parasites like ticks, lice etc. and internal parasites like round worms, tape worms, hook worms etc.

Training

Offering of training is a must for this breed of dogs. Animal needs to be given training programme from the early age onwards by a good trainer. However, it is to be borne in mind that since this dog is stubborn often, the training based corrections are of limited use.

Positive reinforcement training techniques are much enjoyed by this breed rather than the negative reinforcement training strategies. Obesity needs to be taken care of always in this breed.

Since the boxers are the dogs belonging to brachycephalic breeds, the dogs have less tolerance to high heat and humidity. Common sense should prevail during the offering of exercises to these dogs.

Activity

The boxers have the fighting activity with forelegs, while firmly standing with the hind limbs.
